Cake Facial!

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Just as I was posting the previous post, Emma and I were called to a 'surprise' meeting in the cafeteria. Waiting for us was a cake to celebrate my one year anniversary at Target and I was treated to a cake facial:

It was really fun and I won't forget this day :-)

Last day in India

Two weeks have really flown by - pretty crazy!

I have just 10 more hours in India before I embark on a 25 hours journey back to the states. There are definitely many things that I will miss from here: the amazing people, the nice hotels and wonderful food, a new culture with all its amazing history and traditions, Wonder La, King Fisher...

Unfortunately, I did not have much time to take pictures while I was here... but I will post some when I get back to my Picasa account and post the link here.

To all the people I met in India: thank you very much for this amazing opportunity to work with you and get to know about this wonderful country.

To all the people in Minnesota: I'll be back on Friday and can't wait to share stories over a pint in the next few weeks :-)

A couple more days and then back to MN

I went to RJU (Robert J. Ulrich Center) for the first time today. It was definitely more branded than the campus we have currently at Manyata. It was really nice to see where Mark, Paul, Jess, and others seat and get to see some familiar faces like Diptimman.

After lunch, I headed back to Manyata to continue working on my application transition. I think it's going very well, although we are doing it in a way that I did not expect. Instead of focusing on the immediate changes, we are looking at the entire structure of the application and how the changes will impact specific sections of it. This is a lot smarter I believe, since it will help Sreenivas get a better idea of the application as a whole and help him with trouble-shooting... not like that ever happens :-)

I have two more days at Manyata and then I head back to Minnesota at 2 a.m. on Thursday morning. Hopefully I will have enough strength to get to work and undo the damage that Pete (Colombian dude from my team) did to my cube during my absence. I am looking forward to seeing every again :-)

Special Note: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARRIE!

Wonder La was Wonderful!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

We had an amazing time yesterday at Wonder La. It was very sunny and not too crowded which made it very pleasant. I now look like a lobster... lol.

There were both "Dry Rides" and "Wet Rides." I think we had a better time at the wet ones and did we get wet! We started at the Rain Disco which basically was a dance club with rain pouring... very interesting and finally - WE COULD DANCE. Although we were drenched and had to dance on concrete bare-feet. We then did many types of water slides and went to a fake wave simulator which was really fun. It was a very fun day and I felt a little sore and definitely sun burnt.

Today we are heading to 'The Leela' for brunch. It should be quite an experience and I will definitely bring my camera to take some pictures. We might also go to see a flower exhibit after brunch - depending on how we can 'function' :-)

Will definitely keep you posted!

Update: here is a picture from Wonder La with the group

Thank you for all the support!

Hello, hello!

I wanted to give you all a big THANK YOU for reading this blog and motivating to continue writing stuff in it. The comments (Brent, that's mainly you) and emails are greatly appreciated. Keep blogging folks :-)

Top 3 Restaurants in Bangalore (so far)

For the past 10 days or so, we have been pretty lucky to try out a bunch of fun places for lunch and dinner. Here are my top 3 so far:

  1. f & b (Food and Beverage)
    http://www.fandb.in/
Great selection of appetizers, bread, meats, soups, salads, deserts... the list was very impressive. We went there with Mark on Thursday night and we were very impressed. Another cool thing was that they served buckets of Coronas for about the same price as in the States. We headed to the outdoor part of the lounge after dinner and it was pretty quiet. It'd be a nice place to go when more people are around - probably on Sat nights.

  2. i-t-Alia (in the Park hotel)
    http://bangalore.theparkhotels.com/bangalore_rest_it.html
This place was really good - great service (they showed us how to pour the oil and vinegar for our bread and didn't make us feel too stupid), excellent food (mushroom soup, halibut with anchovies) and what appeared to be tasty deserts (we wanted to have the poached pear with red wine wiped cream so bad...)

  3. Paparazzi (in the Royal Orchid Group hotel)
Didn't find a website for that one, but the view was pretty amazing and the food excellent. We started out with the Celebrity Dips (12 dips!) and flaming Mahi-Mahi with mango sauce. We were full already but also enjoyed our main courses.
I hope this helps anybody who is going to Bangalore and wants to try some good food!
